The ideal duration of the course is 14 days. You will be given a placement exam to determine your proficiency in Spanish and placed in the appropriate class. You will have classes in the morning, one-on-one tutoring in the afternoon, with some hours designated to observing and assisting in one of the local health clinics or hospitals. The course can be shortened to 7 days or extended to several weeks if you chose.

While in Merida, you will have the opportunity to immerse yourself in the culture of México and go to museums and two off-campus excursions to Mayan historical sites which are included in the tuition.

While in Mérida, México, you will be placed with a host family. Many of the host families are also health professionals. You will have your own room and bathroom, and the host family generally lives within walking distance to the Spanish Institute of Mérida.
